This is a rp blog that was originally a vaguer suggestion blog, and the character's been developing since (so the older the content, the less likely it’s accurate now!)
I stick primarily around the BL2-up-to-3 Time Period (the guide that follows focuses on giving perspective for BL2), but can jump around!
The Basics
Things your character might know just meeting him
(Stop at this one if you want to find other things out organically!)
Venin is a former Dahl sniper living quietly on Pandora to avoid any... unwelcome altercations after he defected.
Grew up on Tantalus on a Dahl-controlled encampment, was sent to Pandora to assist with the mining operations before a grenade malfunction took his right arm and burned him pretty good.
Violently defected some time later, and is the one responsible for the lack of any remaining Dahl forces on Pandora after they abandoned the planet.
Was involved in some capacity with each vault event around Pandora. Takes odd jobs here and there.
Lives by himself in a small undisclosed base.
Can whistle pretty well, and does so often.
The Lore
Things your character probably doesn’t know even after meeting him
“Venin” is an alias, and he wasn’t a Dahl sniper. He was a test subject in a Dahl testing facility, sent to Pandora to “test him out” after he killed his commanding officer. The grenade malfunction was the last straw, and he finally went ballistic. And he’s hiding from them.
The blast scarred almost his entire right half, it’s still varying in numb-to-sensitive, and he keeps it covered. Developed a limp that’s still noticeable if he’s been on it for a while or taken a hit there too many times.
He was involved in the Vault of the Destroyer event, and it got him hooked on vault hunting (but that’s just the Devaluing of His Own Life™️). He knows enough about the Elpis event that it feels pretty safe to assume he was there.
If you want to find him, check the spiderant ranch in the Dust. If you need to find him faster, check the Wildlands for marked trees and follow the path when you find it. Don’t shoot his cat.
The Deep Lore
Things your character would almost need Maxed out friendship to find out
He always wears a glove and clothes that cover the entire left half of his body, so it’d be hard to notice otherwise, but he’s a modified siren. The Dahl encampment he was raised on was primarily a containment and testing facility, and he was lucky enough to be born in the town just outside it.
The blast wasn’t the only reason he limps, his powers are healing focused but he was born with, at the time, a very minor case of Bone Waste. Thanks to the testing, it never progressed, but it’s been getting harder to deal with as the years go on.
He has a “sister,” a spiderant rancher named Clementine who lives out in the Dust. They aren’t related, and look nothing alike. He lived with her for a number of years after he “defected from Dahl.”
He was hired onto the Elpis mission, and was there for (and thusly guilty of) everything. He didn’t try to sabotage it at any stage, and regrets that.
His base in the wildlands is hidden up in the boughs of a huge tree, accessed by a hidden lift platform. It’s guarded by his “cat,” a huge creature with a tri-sectional jaw, razor sharp spines, and armor-like plating, named Mitzi. Big enough to eat him whole like a python if she really wanted to.
Botany hobbyist. His base is practically overflowing with plants. There’s small pots, beds, and hanging planters all over, and the top level is entirely a sealed greenhouse (the outermost set of doors RIDDLED with warning and cautionary signs, with a box of spare Oz kits on the wall beside it).
The Challenger Deep Lore
This is like. Special DLC quest lore. Like “new game checks your old game’s maxed out save to unlock” kind of lore. Like “slip up once, lose it all,” “tells you this while one of you is DYING” kind of lore
Does ballet in his free time
Really enjoys small-scale creative hobbies that are easy to do while stuck on bedrest, like knitting. (All of the supplies for which stay hidden in his room)
It would take torturing him nearly to death for him to admit, but he really took a shine to Wilhelm while on the Elpis mission, and was very affected by his death
